From what I can see, this Search Suggest thing is very influenceable. It can affect your search traffic, as well as online reputation should you see suggestions of your brand with ‘scam’ and ‘fraud’ in them.

Here’s a few factors that I believe affect the suggestions

1. Queries volume

The more people search on one specific term, the more likely it will be suggested. I mean, different people on unique  IP addresses, not you spamming the query 10000s of times.

2. Geography and devices

The suggestions will vary to different locations. So, more queries in the same suburb will likely get the term suggested when queried in that suburb. I also believe that search on different devices (mobiles) will also help.

3. Keyword phrases and mentions in news, tweets, shares

I’ve recently found out that these suggestions are different on different browsers, and it appears that when I delete my cache/internet history, I get other suggestions. Interesting! Get on it and let me know what you’ve found.
